Description
As the title may suggest, STUPID FUCKING BIRD by Aaron Posner is an irreverent and hilarious adaptation of Chekhov's THE SEAGULL. An aspiring young theatre artist rampages against the art created by his mother's generation; a nubile young actress wrestles with an aging Hollywood star for the affections of a renowned novelist; and everyone discovers just how disappointing love, art, and growing up can be.
STUPID FUCKING BIRD is recommended for mature audiences.

Creative Team
WILLIAM MISSOURI DOWNS (Director) wrote MR. PERFECT and THE EXIT INTERVIEW, which were both recently produced here at SLAC. He has had 150 productions of his plays from the Kennedy Center to the San Diego Rep, won two rolling world premieres from the National New Play Network, and has twice been a finalist at the Eugene O’Neill. He’s published four books on the art of theatre and ten plays. In Hollywood he wrote for several NBC television shows. He was trained in directing by the Oscar-nominated Polish director Jerzy Antczak at UCLA. He has directed 40 plays.
ERIN M. WEST (Costume Design) has worked as a costume designer, technician, costume shop manager and wardrobe manager for various regional and university theatres. She has extensive experience designing, patterning, and building costumes for dance, musicals, early modern dramas, and modern contemporary works. Erin holds a BA in Studio Art from James Madison University and an MFA in Costume Design from The Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, and is currently in her second year teaching and designing costumes for Westminster College. Previously, she has worked with Washington & Lee University, James Madison University, Ohio University, Tuacahn Center for the Arts, Theatre at Lime Kiln, The Virginia Repertory Dance Company, and The American Shakespeare Center, among a variety of others.
JAMES M. CRAIG (Lighting Design) has designed the lighting for more than 50 shows at Salt Lake Acting Company since 1997, most recently for TRIBES, BLACKBERRY WINTER, SATURDAY’S VOYEUR 2015, MR. PERFECT, RAPTURE, BLISTER, BURN, I’LL EAT YOU LAST: A CHAT WITH SUE MENGERS, SATURDAY’S VOYEUR 2014, GRANT & TWAIN, GOOD PEOPLE, VENUS IN FUR, SATURDAY’S VOYEUR 2013, and THE EXIT INTERVIEW. He has also designed lights for Plan-B Theatre, Utah Contemporary Theatre, Utah Musical Theatre, The Egyptian Theatre Company, Peery’s Egyptian Theatre, Odyssey Dance Theatre, The Grand Theatre, Weber State University, The Emily Company, Georgia Shakespeare Festival, Virginia Stage Company, The Generic Theatre, Little Theatre of the Rockies, U of U Youth Theatre, U of U Lyric Opera Ensemble, The Sundance Film Festival and Theatre Inc. Currently Jim is the Technical Director for the Park City Institute. JESSICA GREENBERG (Sound Design)’s work as a lighting and sound designer has taken her to many venues in New York and around the country, with diverse projects in theatre, dance, and opera. New York designs include productions with The Adjusted Realists, New Opera NYC, Alivewire Theatrics, Red Fern Theatre, Castillo Theatre, Two Headed Calf, Midlantic Theatre, and Epic Theatre Ensemble Education Programs. Locally, she frequently works with SB Dance Company as well as SLAC. Jessica is currently Assistant Professor of Lighting & Sound Design at Weber State University in Ogden, UT. THOMAS GEORGE (Set Design) is a former Adjunct Instructor of Theatre at the University of Utah. He holds an MFA from U.C. San Diego, and a BFA from the University of Utah. Current projects include Climbing with Tigers recent produced at SLAC, as well as shows at Plan B Theatre and Pygmalion Productions, among others. Previous credits include Mockingbird, Hellman Vs. McCarthy. (Pygmalion), A FLEA IN HER EAR, THE ADDING MACHINE, REASONS TO BE PRETTY (Guest designer – U of U), TWELFTH NIGHT and YOU'RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN (Salt Lake Shakespeare), HAMLET for the Brooklyn Gallery Players, YOU ARE HERE at the Gene Frankel Theatre in New York, THE MISANTHROPE at the Mandel Weiss Forum Theatre, and AS YOU LIKE IT for the Potiker Theatre at UC San Diego. JANICE JENSON (Prop Design) Janice has worked at Salt Lake Acting Company for the past 4 years as stage manager,Company Manager, and AssociateProducer and is excited for her new role as Producing Director. Janice is a proud member of Actor’s Equity Association and has stage managed over twenty shows at SLAC, including the last fiveSATURDAY’S VOYEUR’s. Previously, Janice has worked at Park City’s EgyptianTheatre, Dark Horse Company Theatre, Plan-B, and Tuacahn Center for theArts. In 2008 Janice was selected asa USITT Stage Management Mentee, where she stage managed THE HISTORY OF DRAG. Janice is a graduate of BYU inTheatre Arts Studies with an emphasis in stage management and is currently working on her Masters of CommunityLeadership at Westminster College.
SHANNON MUSGRAVE (Assistant Director) is Associate Artistic Director for Salt Lake Acting Company. She holds her MA in Arts Management from American University in Washington, D.C. and her BA in Musical Theatre from Weber State University. Shannon has worked in the Artistic Development department of Arena Stage and as Development Director for Flying V Theatre in D.C. While writing her thesis on new play development, Shannon was selected as a directing apprentice for the Kennedy Center's Directing Intensive: Developing the New Play. At American University, Shannon served as Executive Chair for the annual Emerging Arts Leaders Symposium – a day-long conference for young arts leaders from around the country, produced in conjunction with National Arts Advocacy Day. Directing credits include HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE for the Great Salt Lake Fringe Festival and SLAC's reading of BLEEDING HEARTS by Steve Yockey. Shannon saw the world premiere of STUPID F***ING BIRD at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company in 2013 and knew it had to be done at SLAC.
JENNIE SANT (Stage Manager) has worked at Salt Lake Acting Company as the AEA Stage Manager on BLACKBERRY WINTER, I’LL EAT YOU LAST: A CHAT WITH SUE MENGERS, VENUS IN FUR, MANNING UP, THE PERSIAN QUARTER and ANGELS IN AMERICA PARTS I & II. She has also worked at The Egyptian Theatre Company as the AEA Stage Manager on PAGENT and THE MUSIC MAN. Pioneer Theatre Company as the 1st ASM on LES MISERABLES, PAINT YOUR WAGON, DOUBT, A MIDSUMMER NIGHTS DREAM, THE FOREIGNER, VERTICAL HOUR and THE PRODUCERS. She was also the ASM for NEXT TO NORMAL. Other credits stage managing includes ANGELS IN AMERICA PARTS I & II at the Babcock Theatre, TRUE WEST in Studio 115, HENRY V and MEASURE FOR MEASURE for Salt Lake Shakes and TALKING WALES II for Utah Contemporary Theatre.
